Mail server monitoring

Your mail checked like a real client

Every check follows the same path as a real email client.

SMTP, IMAP and POP3

All three protocols, on standard ports or ports of your choice.

STARTTLS or implicit TLS

Encryption is negotiated just as a client would, or disabled if needed.

Certificate validated

The certificate chain and expiry date are checked on every connection.

Never authenticates

The check reads the greeting, negotiates encryption, then politely disconnects.

Response time

Server response time is measured and tracked, region by region.

Together with your DNS

Combine with monitoring of your MX and SPF records to cover the whole chain.

Questions

Mail server monitoring FAQ

Does LucidStack send a test email?

No. The check connects, reads the greeting and negotiates encryption, without sending a message or authenticating.

Which ports are used?

The standard ports for the protocol and encryption (587, 465, 25, 993, 143, 995, 110), or the one you specify.

Is the certificate checked?

Yes, its validity and expiry date are checked on every encrypted connection.

Can I monitor Microsoft 365 or Gmail?

You can check their public servers, but the real value lies in monitoring your own mail servers.

Add a URL, choose where to be alerted. LucidStack takes care of the rest, day and night.
